Donald Trump has stated that the hacking of the Democrat servers and email had no effect on the election.

A recently released intelligence report cited Russia as being responsible for the hacks, and that the aim was to hand Trump the election win.

Although he has always rejected claims that Russia was responsible for the attack, he did accept the possibility that Moscow could have been involved.  After the meeting with intelligence chiefs Trump did agree that the U.S was vulnerable to cyber attacks from China, Russia, and other countries.

In a statement, Trump said, “While Russia, China, other countries, outside groups and people are consistently trying to break through the cyber infrastructure of our governmental institutions, businesses and organizations including the Democrat National Committee, there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election.”

He offered no direct acceptance that intelligence agencies were right in their conclusion that Russia was behind the hacks.

Trump met the chiefs of four U.S Intelligence agencies in New York.  These were the Directorate of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency.

A declassified version of the intelligence report stated, “Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump.”

The report offered little in how conclusions were reached.

The Obama administration has already expelled Russian diplomats in response to the hacks.

President Obama said, “I think that what is true, is that the Russians intended to meddle and they meddled.

“One of the things I am concerned about is the degree to which we’ve seen a lot of commentary lately where there are Republicans or pundits or cable commentators who seem to have more confidence in Vladimir Putin than fellow Americans because those fellow Americans are Democrats. That cannot be”.

Trump’s team does not believe that the hacking, whoever was responsible had a bearing on the election result.
