Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham says she is delighted and humbled after learning that she is set to get an OBE for services to the fashion industry.
Mrs Beckham has told her proud family that she has been named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list. It is expected that she is to get an OBE for her fashion and charity work. It means Mrs Beckham follows in the footsteps of her footballer husband David Beckham who accepted an OBE more than a decade ago for services to football.
According to sources close to the Beckham family, the mother of four is both “delighted and humbled” to get such recognition. The source said that Mrs Beckham was very proud of the fashion empire that she and the team she has built around her have created.
It is understood that Mrs Beckham broke the happy news to her family over Christmas, which they are believed to have spent in the sunshine in the Maldives. Children Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 11, and Harper, five, are said to be thrilled for their mum.
When she first turned from a singing career to one in fashion, many ridiculed her for even trying. However, Mrs Beckham has definitely had the last laugh, by showcasing her talents through her eponymous label, which is now a firm favourite with A listers.
The designer is said to be especially delighted that her charity work has been recognised. She works as a UNAIDS goodwill ambassador, to raise awareness for women with AIDS and HIV.
Mr Beckham recently spoke out about receiving his own OBE, as part of a documentary about the Queen turning 90. The footballer said it was one of the proudest moments of his life. When he received the honour, Mrs Beckham, then better known as Posh Spice, escorted him. This time, the tables will be turned.
